Journeys:
A Teachers Handbook for Exploring Migration and Migrant Rights in the Primary Classroom
Authors: Brighid Golden and Aideen Roche

Purchase
Journeys is a whole-school resource on the theme of migration, rights and integration. The resource is divided into four distinct themes: Stereotypes; Culture; Journeys; and Protection. The themes have been designed to be covered consecutively to allow children to build on their learning from the previous theme. After each theme has been covered throughout the school, classes are encouraged to come together to share their learning at school assemblies or through school displays. Each theme includes an introductory section. This is followed by activities which can be covered within each theme.

To cater for the needs of children of all ages and ability levels, the activities get progressively more complex and in-depth as the theme progresses. Each activity has a suggested class level. However, this is not definitive and you are encouraged to make your own judgement about the abilities and interest levels of your class and whether to adapt lessons to suit individual needs. Each theme begins with a home-school link activity, which can be used as an introduction for all class levels.
